Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Angie Box. I got started in healthcare many moons ago when I became a drug abuse counselor for adolescents, I quickly realized I was much too young for that type of position. A local staffing company sent me to a hospital to be their biller. I had no idea what I was doing. Once I figured it out, I became very intrigued by how the whole process worked. Once day, a vendor we used for work comp collections explained to me how they audited work comp claims. Mistake! I took that information and studied it. It amazed me how much money we missed. When the vendor was no longer able to find any money left on the table, they had no choice but to hire me! It was then when I realize just how much I loved finding these lost funds. Well, I love it second to actually collecting them! Through the years I have worked with some state agencies on how to improve their fee schedules. I make an effort to develop a rapport with not only the state agencies monitoring workers comp but with the carriers as well. The process always works. Even when a hospital doesn't think they have any lost revenue in that financial class, we find it!
I pride myself in teaching my staff exactly how to identify lost revenue trends. We typically do not hire experienced, seasoned collectors. It's not for the reason you might think. We do this because we are looking for that special someone with that certain...let's just call it "moxie" if you will. This process is not for everyone.
I have been a longtime HFMA member and past-president of the AAHAM Texas Bluebonnet chapter where I won 2 President's Awards. I am a past-president of the Martin High School PTSA. I currently sit on the committee for the Be Happy Chili Cook-off because I enjoy cooking and doing competitive BBQ with my husband Joe. I am also on the AAHAM Texas Bluebonnet board as the current Sponsorship Chair. We became first-time grandparents in 2021 when my daughter Madison (who works in restaurant management) gave birth to Gemma and made me a Gigi! My son Jase has become an successful salesman in the roofing industry. In my spare time, I enjoy playing poker, doing crafts, planning parties and spending time with family and friends.
